Library of Dust

For over twenty years, the now-defunct (and infamous) Oregon State Psychiatric Hospital stored the cremated remains of patients in copper containers in a basement that frequently flooded. Photographer David Maisel has created a gorgeous tribute called “Library of Dust” that puts a spotlight on the remarkable mineralogical expressions of each canister. Geologist Jim Webster ponders the possibilites.  [Produced for PRI‘s “Studio 360“.]
