Christo & Jeanne-Claude’s “The Gates”

This season, the residents of Manhattan wake up to find their beloved Central Park taken over by orange fabric. The project, known as “The Gates“, was 26 years in the making. The married artists known as Christo and Jeanne-Claude wrap big things in fabric — like a bridge over the Seine in Paris, small islands off Florida and the old German parliament building in Berlin, called the Reichstag. But the artists don’t begrudge the bureaucratic hurdles that inevitably arise. They relish them. [Produced for PRI‘s “Studio 360“.]
